Ο Δείκτης Ισότητας Φύλων 2017 κατέταξε την Ελλάδα τελευταία μεταξύ των 28 χωρών της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης. Το χάσμα αμοιβών μεταξύ ανδρών και γυναικών για ίση εργασία παρέμεινε υψηλό.

Η συμμετοχή των γυναικών στα κέντρα λήψης αποφάσεων αποδείχθηκε εξαιρετικά περιορισμένη.

Οι συνθήκες απασχόλησης για τις γυναίκες ήταν δυσμενέστερες, η πρόσβαση στην εργασία πιο επισφαλής, ενώ η φροντίδα του σπιτιού και των μελών της οικογένειας συνέχισε να βαρύνει κυρίως τις ίδιες. Ταυτόχρονα, η έμφυλη βία παρέμενε στατιστικά σημαντική και ανησυχητικά παρούσα.

Στο πλαίσιο του έργου:

• 177 νέες φοιτήτριες εκπαιδεύτηκαν ως leaders αλλαγής.
• Καθεμία από αυτές οργάνωσε σειρά σεμιναρίων ενδυνάμωσης για 50 άλλες νέες γυναίκες.
• Μέσα σε δύο έτη, το έργο δημιούργησε ένα δίκτυο χιλιάδων νέων γυναικών με ενισχυμένες δεξιότητες, φωνή και αυτοπεποίθηση.

Womentors: Young Women Empowerment

The Gender Equality Index 2017 ranked Greece last among the 28 EU member states. The gender pay gap for equal work remained high. Women’s participation in decision-making centers proved to be extremely limited. Employment conditions for women were more unfavorable, access to work more precarious, while the burden of household and family care continued to fall disproportionately on them. At the same time, gender-based violence remained statistically significant and worryingly present.

As part of the project:

• 177 young female university students were trained as change leaders
• Each of them organized (or is expected to organize) a series of empowerment seminars for 50 other young women
• Within two years, the project created a network of thousands of young women with strengthened skills, voice, and self-confidence

This intervention highlighted women’s leadership as a driving force for social change. It invested in a multiplying mechanism of empowerment and laid the groundwork for a sustainable cultural shift toward gender equality in Greece.
